about
It has been one month since Matt Rupel, a beloved member of the Freidreich’s Ataxia family, passed away at the age of 26. His family wrote and recorded a song in his honor, which was performed at memorial services for Matt. The Rupel family is determined to continue fighting for a cure for FA. They have donated this song to the Freidreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance (FARA) in the hope that people inspired by Matt’s life will download the song in exchange for a gift in support of FARA’s ongoing work toward a cure. People who purchase the song using the link provided may choose how much to donate. You can give $1 or $10 or even $100 or more. Remember, all proceeds go to Freidrich’s Ataxia research. Please give as generously as you can. The song is written and performed by Matt’s father Bart, his uncles Bill and Tim, his sister Katie and his cousins Sarah and Chris. It is meant to be contemplative but also humorous, just like Matt.
lyrics
Matthew
Oo-oo-oo-oo (2x)
You never made it to the stage
even though you were better than Nicholas Cage
Your talent went on for miles
Your skinny jeans defined your style
From San Francisco to NYC
Rolling through the city streets
Running over everybody's feet
Never too mad to say pardon me
Oh, Matthew, you've helped the world to see so differently
Now won't you stay
Oh, Matthew, you are a part of me in almost every single way
and how I long to see your face
Again, Matthew
Oo-oo-oo-oo
Whenever you'd say that you would drive
I knew we might not make it back alive
We'd all protect our beers when something funny reached your ears
Mouth big enough to swallow eggs whole
You never had to study in school
Your patience made you suffer fools
Like drunk folks hugging and flattering you
Oh, Matthew, you've fought so hard and now it's time to go
and that's okay
Oh, Matthew, you are a part of me in each and every single way
And now I know I'll see your face
Again, Matthew
Oo-oo-oo-oo
Keep rolling on, one day you'll be walking along (3x)
Here or in the great beyond, somewhere you'll be walking along
